Deeper and Deeper

Coach Charlie Weis and company continued to load up on the talent this past week. First, another Golic has verbally committed to wear the Blue and Gold. This time it is Jake Golic. Golic is a 6'5" tight end out of Northwest Catholic High School. Secondly, Tyler Stockton, a D-Tackle out of The Hun School in Princeton, NJ seems to be on his way to South Bend.Stockton is 6'1", 280 pounds and seems to have a mean streak pulsing through his veins. Stockton is currently rated as a 4-star recruit on Rivals. Lastly, and most celebrated as of right now, is running back Cierre Wood. Wood is a 5 star RB plucked from USC's backyard. All reports indicate Wood is a game-breaker, and after seeing his stat line for his junior season, this may be very difficult to dispute.
As a 2007 junior, Wood scored 42 touchdowns, rushed for 2,612 yards on 178 carries and caught seven passes for 191 yards. He also played cornerback, recording 50 tackles and three interceptions and led Oxnard (Calif.) Santa Clara to the CIF-MidValley Division Title. Wood averaged 14.7 yards per carry and 200.9 yards per game. Was named the CIF Player of the Year and Ventura County Player of the Year.
Wood's selection came down to the Irish or UCLA. Wood chose ND for various reasons, but especially for the academics. Reports indicate, Wood is considering engineering as a major.
